Viraj (Akshay) is a Hollywood stunt man who doesn’t believe in marriage and lives by the belief that women are good for only two things. When he comes to know that his younger brother Lucky (Aftab) is getting married, he rushes to break it off. At the same time the bride, Kamini’s (Amrita) best friend Simrita (Kareena) too rushes in dissuading her from getting married to a ‘second hand’ person aka a stuntman. But it is too late as the couple has already made up their mind. But not before a war of words ensues between the chauvinist Viraj and snooty Simrita. The reason why Simrita (who by the way is a medical student cum part time model) hates men is the examples she has seen in her own family. She therefore believes men are only interested in taking women into their beds and nothing else. But then fate keeps Viraj and Simrita bumping more into each other and their each meeting only doubling up their hate for each other. Meanwhile, Simrita’s stubbornness leads Lucky and Kamini to the brink of divorce. While Viraj tries to stop this divorce from taking place Simrita tries her best to ensure it takes place. Things get more complicated when during Viraj’s operation, Simrita accidentally leaves her watch inside his stomach. What it all leads to forms the rest of the plot.

Kambakkht Ishq is one of the most lavish productions to come out of Bollywood no doubts about it. But despite involving four scriptwriters the film still falls short of the expectations where the promised wholesome entertainment is concerned. The main problem being the wafer thin plot, then again some really bad jokes that fall flat and finally the second half. Also many a times the thin line of acceptance has been crossed in the name of humour which makes it a difficult watch for the family audience. The first half breezes quickly but the second half slows down considerably. The serious turn taken though comes in with the flow of the film, it gets boring as you know it very well where it is all going to lead to. Though it is applause worthy job by debutante director Sabbir Khan to helm a film as huge, you sorely miss a David Dhawan who would have controlled the lunatic moments more effeciently. To give due credit, ‘Hollywood’ has been well incorporated by Sabbir in the film. Though Taurus awards sequence has been superbly picturised, the makers seem to be under the impression that award winners arrive first on stage followed by announcement of arrival of award presenters at prestigious international awards.

The film scores high in the technical department with cinematographer Vikas Sivaraman coming on tops. He has succeeded in imparting the film an international look. However, barring the Mangalam number the music of the film is not worth a mention.

Akshay Kumar is back in terrific form as a performer. He is simply superb in his award acceptance speech. Kareena has never looked so hot before. She manages to put up her own against Akshay but is saddled by poor characterization, especially in the second half. Almost 80% of the time her character has been burdened with a permanent growl on the face. Amrita Arora is cute as her dim wit friend. Aftab is passable. Kirron Kher is getting irritatingly repetitive. Boman Irani in a single scene appearance is hilarious but Javed Jaffrey grates on your nerves and its high time he realises that his ‘punny’ jokes don’t work every time. Vindoo Dara Singh as the dumb assist of Akshay is mirthful. Amongst the Hollywood stars, Sylvester Stallone commands great screen presence but Denise Richards looks too old but she does enact her part well.

Watching the promos and the huge hype the makers have managed to create about their film, your expectation levels are high when you enter but as you come out you do feel that it is nothing more than a dumb entertainer that tries to take you too much for granted. It may take a great start at the box office but the crowds will vanish from Monday once the hype begins to settles down.

NewYork Movie review Download movie John Katrina

All those of us who want an apparently free ride on a svelte, sizzling camaraderie can have the time of their lives. Katrina Kaif is matching swords with John Abraham to produce what looks like being one of the real blockbusters of coming times.

The movie would be produced by Yash Raj films. Now few years ago this would have been a success mantra in itself but these are tough times for Yash Raj flicks and they are going through a series of misses, may be interspersed with an odd hit.

Direction mantle will be taken by Kabir Khan, the guy who is attributed to the semi-success of Kabul express. (In fact it did reasonably well in certain territories) the film also has the self- assured but unassuming Neil Nitin Mukesh.

Yash Raj films have been known to keep their venture in complete wraps till the post production stages. Keeping in line with the trend, they have not revealed much. The movie is expected to hit theaters in early 2009.

John Abraham has already become a brand in this country with the latest line of accessories that he has flashed under his name. After Anurag Kashyap’s No Smoking and Kukhnoor’s Aashaayein, he has taken up New York which again like Khan’s Kabul Express is based on terrorism and its various ramifications.

Hot romantic scenes are pictured between john and katrina kaif and these pictures are hearting the sallu mia, but these sallu and katrina kaif both have appeared in reality show and they mesmirised the audience and audiencs also thrilled very much and all these pictures are playing all the news channels and people aare waiting for these shows eagerly very much.

New York: Movie Review **1/2

New York opens around 7 years after the 9/11 attacks with Omar (Neil Mukesh) being wrongly held captive by the FBI. Investigating officer Roshan (Irrfan Khan) offers to go easy on Omar if he agrees to spy on old-time friend Sameer (John Abraham) who the FBI suspects to be a terrorist. With a maneuvered reunion, Omar gets entry into Sameer’s house and tries hard to unveil his activist identity but fails every time, much to his relief.

In contrast, Sameer himself narrates his distressing past to Omar of how he was illegally detained and brutally tortured by the FBI for 9 months, immediately after 9/11 and victimized for being a Muslim suspect in New York.

New York opens on an intriguing note with Omar’s attempts to infiltrate into Sameer’s life. The ensuing chemistry between the characters keeps you riveted till the movie takes an interesting (though palpable) twist at the interval point. The terrorism theme comes into picture predominantly in the second half. The physical and mental abuse on innocent Muslims, imprisoned merely on suspicion and their consequent repercussions are effectively portrayed.

But beyond that Aditya Chopra’s story doesn’t work towards the rehabilitation of the disturbed mind that has taken to the wrong path. In a way, the film turns the villain into more of an antihero imparting him no character change. Above that the commonplace climax where the FBI headquarters is held as the terrorist target doesn’t go beyond Fanaa frontiers. The terrorist is terminated but the topic of terrorism it tackles keeps long lingering. The message doesn’t come across compellingly and perhaps that’s why the director preaches with an extended epilogue.

All the three lead protagonists of New York are Muslims affected by the 9/11 episode in varied ways and to different degrees. Sameer turns a scapegoat of the situation; Omar’s identity gets him in trouble, while Roshan’s character (a Muslim investigating on terrorism) offers that ray of hope prevailing amidst discriminating humankind. Unfortunately the scope it had to represent the contrast of the characters isn’t used as distinctly and effectively like in the Pakistani film Khuda ke liye similar concerns.

The issue of global terrorism somewhere goes for a toss with the film turning into a human emotion drama. As the victim is released from prison and his atrocities are still fresh in your mind, the intensity of his trauma is diluted with a love song stuffed in. The couple further goes on to make love and start a family. More mush comes into picture as Omar confesses his campus feelings to the married Maya (Katrina Kaif) amidst the pre-climax mayhem. Thankfully the traditional Yash Raj triangle is averted. The side-track of a frustrated Muslim driver (Nawazuddin) committing suicide doesn’t contribute to the plot and could have been avoided.

John does well in his frail characterization which could have been much more convincing, intense and effective. Neil looks rehearsed in some scenes but doesn’t disappoint. Irrfan Khan never misses any punch in his lines and is as expressive as ever. Katrina Kaif doesn’t get the meatier portion and contributes to the sloppy effect.

As the last frame closes amidst the Yash Raj mascot of maple leaves, you just wish the film had a lot more grit, the characters had a lot more depth and the treatment had a lot more sensitivity. Alas New York fails to break new grounds on that note.

Kambakkht Ishq is one of the most anticipated movies this summer, and with so many stars both Bollywood as well as Hollywood associated with the movie every small bit of news is finding the front page. The music for this big budget extravaganza was scored by Anu Malik, who is

trying to find a position in the now competitive Bollywood music industry. But Anu Malik is like Shahid Afridi, as you can never predict him and many times in the past have surprised the audience with some unforgettable music. Will the soundtrack be something to cheer about? Let’s analyze.
Bebo---
Vocals: Alisha Chinoy
Lyrics: Anvita Dutt Guptan

The tune is age-old but Anu malik tries very hard to be more hep and has used many techno sounds to capture the youth. But after finishing the song the only person who has carried this song from being just ordinary is the ‘Kajra re’ girl Alisha Chinai. Her magnetic voice brings the required feel for this seductive number where the heroine is trying to seduce the hero. Maybe with visual aid this song will get more appealing but for the time being it’s just a decent track. The remixed version is totally uncalled for as the original song itself has abundant techno sounds and the remixed version doesn’t impress much.



Welcome to Hollywood---
Vocals: Anushka Manchandani, Karsh Kale
Lyrics: Sabbir Khan

Anushka Manchanda and Karsh Kale are very helpful in bringing authenticity to this 2-minute song on Hollywood. The music is good enough to capture the audience and Salim–Sulaiman (guest composer) impresses with the instrumental usage.



Kambakkht Ishq---

Lyrics: Anvita Dutt Guptan

The title song comes next, it’s a collage of retro, modern and hip hop trance which if properly used would have been very effective. But Anu Malik messes it up. It is very loud most of the times and is a complete let down. The lyrics aren’t that impressive either. KK and Sunidhi Chauhan’s voices are overshadowed by the over crowded instruments. Have no idea why they even thought of a remix when the original itself was like one? Skip the remix.



Lakh Lakh---
Vocals: Neeraj Shridhar
Lyrics: Anvita Dutt Guptan

It is a bhangara song where the hero pulls the leg of the heroine. Neeraj Sridhar’s vocals are fresh and suit the genre but Anu Malik gives a music which seems to be an inspiration of many songs. The lyrics are quite good in this one. A decent song, which will be loved in the theatres, but not something that will linger in their minds after the show. Remixed version is ok.



Om Mangalam---
Vocals: Rdb
Lyrics: Rdb

This song has found place in all the promotional activities and has already become a rage among the masses. The chant of ‘Om Mangalam’ has been used well by RDB in association with Anu Malik, the lyrics and vocals are rendered by RDB and they have impressed one an all by this hip hop song which is sure to stay up the charts for a long time. The remixed song is also equally catchy.



Kyun---
Vocals: Shaan, Shreya Ghosal
Lyrics: Anvita Dutt Guptan

Kyun is the only slow romantic number in the otherwise heavy album. Though it does remind you of Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy than Anu malik, it does impress you. Thanks to some rich lyrics by Anvita Dutt Guptan and amazing vocal rendering by Shaan and Shreya Ghosal. The few jarring instrument usage (especially the drum usage in unnecessary places) and a chorus on regular intervals shows the desperation of Anu Malik to mend his style to the modern but lack of experience goes against him. Shreya Ghosal’s solo rendering of the same song sounds a little better and much crisper.



Verdict:

It’s a heavy soundtrack which has too much of sound and less of music but Anu Malik’s attempt to impress the younger generation makes one feel for this once number uno music director. ‘Om Mangalam’ and ‘Kyun’ are the pick of the albums with the rest being passable. Lyrics by Anvita Dutt Guptan are decent but needs to go a long way. Kudos Anu Malik for the valiant attempt but better luck next time.
